Jané Steyn

I’ve always loved making things, experimenting with colour, and finding beauty in the ordinary.   Somewhere between the school drop-offs, pick-ups and beautiful chaos of raising three boys, painting became something that was just mine. It’s the one place where I can completely lose myself, while somehow finding myself at the same time.   I love abstract work, florals and, especially, kitchen art. There’s something about painting the everyday things that surround us — fruit on a table, a coffee cup, flowers in a vase — that I’m naturally drawn to. Maybe that love has grown with motherhood and the life I’m living now.   My work isn’t about creating something perfect. It’s about creating something that feels like me. An idea that started in my own head, passed through my hands, and ended up on a canvas in a way that nobody else could have painted quite the same.   There is something incredibly special about being able to say, “I thought of this. I made this.” And I’m really proud of that.
