About Your Teacher
Janice Grant
I am an artist and teacher at heart, with a background in fine art, photography and graphic design. Drawing and painting are my happy place—a space where I can slow down, switch off, and just create.
I love pencil and pen, especially a good doodle where I can get lost in detail, but I also enjoy getting messy with oils and experimenting with clay. I’m happiest when I’m exploring and trying new things rather than overthinking them.
Teaching feels completely natural to me. I love sharing creativity in a relaxed, fun way where people feel free to try, play, and surprise themselves. While I don’t focus much on showing my own work, I’m passionate about helping others discover their creativity.
I’m inspired by nature, tiny details, emotions, and a lifelong love of elephants.
What Students Will Learn
Students will be gently guided through a variety of creative skills in a fun and supportive environment. Over the 6-week programme, they will learn:
• How to observe and draw simple shapes and everyday objects
• Basic colour mixing and how colours work together
• Simple painting techniques using acrylic and watercolour
• How to build up artwork using layers and texture
• An introduction to composition (how to arrange a picture)
• Exploring mixed media by combining drawing and painting
• Building confidence in creative expression and abstract art
• Encouraging personal creativity and individual style
• Most importantly, how to enjoy the creative process without pressure
Essentials (please bring to each class):
- Sketchbook
- Basic pencil set (HB–4B is perfect)
- Basic set of brushes
Optional (for those who love to create at home too):
If you’d like to continue practising between classes or start building your own creative kit, we recommend having your own materials at home:
- Acrylic paints (basic colours)
- Paintbrushes (a small mixed set)
- Watercolour paints
- Fineliners or pens
- Glue, scissors, and collage materials
- Charcoal or oil pastels
A little note from us 💛
Art is something that grows with practice. While everything you need to explore will be available during class, having your own materials at home can really help build confidence and creativity between sessions.
If your child starts to fall in love with a particular medium (which happens often!), investing in their own supplies is a great next step.
