This relaxed and creative weaving class introduces participants to the art of tapestry weaving in a supportive and inspiring environment. Over the course of 10 weeks, students will learn how to make and string their own loom, explore foundational weaving techniques and patterns, and experiment with colour, texture, and different fibres to create unique woven artworks. The class focuses on both technical skills and creative exploration, encouraging participants to develop their own style while enjoying the meditative rhythm of weaving. No prior experience is necessary, making it ideal for beginners as well as anyone looking to reconnect with hands-on creativity. Whether you are curious about learning a new craft, interested in textile art, or simply looking for a calm and creative space to make with your hands, this class offers a welcoming opportunity to slow down and create.

What Students Will Learn

• How to build and assemble a loom

• Basic & intermediate weaving stitches: plain (tabby) weave, rya knots (fringe texture), soumak wrapping (braiding), twining

• Colour combinations and composition
• Shape building, colour blocks, patterns and blending
• How to build layers and texture
• Muscle memory - weaving gets easier and faster with consistency and repetition
• Finding your own creative textile style

What Students Should Bring

Some materials such as wool will be provided, but students are encouraged to bring any additional wool/fibres they would like to work with, as well as any playful materials they may want to incorporate into their tapestries such as beads, sequins, ribbons etc.

• For the first session only, students will need to bring a hammer and a ruler 
• every session: A fork or hair comb, and a chopstick or knitting needle

This class runs fortnightly / every 2nd week

R450 per class
R2 250 per term

• R750 per month (3 monthly instalments)
